Colnago Master - 1984

HISTORY

Colnago Ernesto & C. S.r.l. or Colnago is a manufacturer of high-end road-racing bicycles founded by Ernesto Colnago near Milano in Cambiago, Italy. Instead of following his family's farming business, Ernesto Colnago chose to work in the cycle trade, apprenticing first with Gloria Bicycles at 13, subsequently taking up road racing. After a bad crash ended his racing career, he began subcontracting for Gloria, opened his own shop in 1954, building his first frames the same year.

The very first generation of the Colnago Master was released in 1984, the same year in which Giuseppe Saronni won the Giro d'Italia - riding a Colnago Master, of course.
The Master was meant to be an improvement of the Mexico which had been Colnago's top model before. It had completely different lugs and a drastically changed tubing.
Any cyclist out there dreamed to own a Master, just like avid collectors nowadays have one in their collection.
The frame truly is an "evergreen". The tubing - "Columbus Gilco Design - Profilo S4" - has profiled sections and was specifically designed by Gilberto Colombo to improve the stiffness and to better withstand mechanical strain.
The Master had a huge impact on the cycling scene and became the most winning rod bike model in the following years.
A top notch frame like this deserves only top notch parts. In this case it is Campagnolo's best groupset. In the sum it perfects the bike to a union of the best of the Italian cycling world. The Super Record was THE classic groupset which was to be seen on most professional's bikes from 1973 to 1985.
